h1The puppylinux group on last.fm now has its own radio station./h1pa href=http://www.last.fm/group/Puppy%20Linux/?chartstyle=MiniButtonimg src=http://imagegen.last.fm/MiniButton/recenttracks/hairywill.gif alt=hairywill#039;s Profile Page align=right border=0 //a/ppNo, you can't listen to Lobster discussing the benefits of a time travelling operating system. This radio station streams the tracks most listened to by puppy enthusiasts on last.fm. If you are interested in joining the puppylinux group you can head over to a href=http://www.last.fm/group/Puppy+LinuxPuppy Linux on LastFM/a. You can see who is currentlybr /a href=http://www.last.fm/group/Puppy+Linux/membersa member of the group/a . The direct url for the flash radio station is a href=http://www.last.fm/listen/group/Puppy%20Linuxhere/a. Last.fm users can install various media player plugins to store the names of the tracks that you listen to in your Last.fm profile. On puppy linux the audacious media player available a href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=20942here/a and a href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32610here/a also has a plugin that submits to Last.fm. If you just want to listen to Last.fm radio stations then you can also use the console based shell-fm player, this works well even on a low powered 133MHz machine that is too slow to use the flash player. There are also a pets available for a href=http://vidar.gimp.org/lastfmproxy/lastfm-proxy/a, if you want to play your music in your regular media player and a href=http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/streamripper/a which can be used to record tracks streamed from Last.fm../ppnbsp;/pphairywill /p

Puppy Linux 4.1 Released

pimg src=http://puppylinux.com/bkauler/meandvincent.jpg align=right /Puppy Linux 4.1 has been released by Barry Kauler, the founder of Puppy Linux. Puppy 4.1 contains numerous enhancements and improvements to 4.0, including quot;ground-breaking new applications and under-the-hood architectural improvements over 4.00. Ground-breaking apps include our new Psip VOIP and PPLOG personal blog. Under-the-hood includes faster boot times, much better hardware detection, and new 'pup_event' architecture (including desktop drive icons).quot;br /Announcement amp; Release Notes: a class=freelinking external href=http://puppylinux.com/download/release-4.1.htmhttp://puppylinux.com/download/release-4.1.htm/abr /Download: a class=freelinking external href=http://puppylinux.com/blog/http://puppylinux.com/blog//abr /Puppy 4.1 marks the last release of Puppy with Mr. Kauler in sole responsiility for the entire Puppy operation, as has been the case since the original release of Puppy. This has been an enormous accomplishment by Barry, when one considers that he not only created a unique and innovative operating system, but also the entire Puppy community. He did not do this alone, of course, and Kauler is the first to say that and to thank eveyone who has helped, but it was all created because he saw the kind of operating system he wanted and then went about building it.br /Retirement Announcement: a class=freelinking external href=http://puppylinux.com/blog/?viewCat=Retirementhttp://puppylinux.com/blog/?viewCat=Retirement/a/p

Lots of Action in Puppy Derivatives

pThere is alot going on in the Puppy Derivatives discussion at the a class=freelinking external href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php?f=35puppylinux.com/a site today.  Puppy derivatives are not some new financial scheme to make money for sneaky people; rather they are distributions that are based on one  of the official releases of Puppy Linux.  First on the list at the moment is Muppy Linux 008.4c Final. which was originally based on Puppy 3.01  There are a couple of versions, including Muppy-Mini (150MB) and Muppy Live (800MB).  Versions of the KDE and Gnome desktops are also available as options.  Muppy is set up to install the latest programs from Slackware 12.1./ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/0083-mini.jpg align=right /Puppy Linux Developer's Edition was first posted just 10 days ago and has already attracted interest because it includes many of the programs that developers need in order to code and compile new software for Puppy. Developer's Edition is based on Puppy 4.00./ppThere is a new edition of Lighthouse Pup based on an earlier version of Puppy, version 2.15, which shows that all versions of Puppy are represented and have something to reccommend them and people who are interested in maintaining and using them.  /ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/thumb_seamonkey_Flash.jpg align=left / Another new puplet is Boxpup based on the window manager Openbox, which is known for its simplicity and speed.  Out of the box it shows just a blank screen, with no icons on the screen and no taskbar at the bottom--though these things can be added with other programs. /ppThere is another new Puppy that makes claims to speed, and that is Greyhound Puppy (full disclosure: that is mine).  Greyhound gains its speed by doing away with the nonessentials and is unusual in the sense that there is no ISO image to download and install; rather there is just a set of instructions for training any puppy to  be a greyhound./ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/boxpupscreen1.jpg align=right /br /Also showing messages today is Surfpup, designed for web surfing and showing an extremely simple screen, with only the trash icon and a taskbar at the bottom;/ppYou might also be interested in Churchpup, which is a full-featured Puppy derivative aimed primarily at Christians but open to all. ChurchPup focuses on Bible study, office applications, internet, and email, but also includes applications for multimedia presentations, audio and video editing, and musical notation./ppMacPup Dingo is a 95MB ISO based on Puppy Dingo with the Icewm Package (Extremely small package from Ttuuxxx)  and Wbar (Docker application)  and a Modified Brushed Metal theme for ICEWM all giving it  an OSX kind of look./ppThen there is Skinny Pup, which was created by NoNameAmI who only joined the Puppy community a few weeks ago, which shows that Puppy and the community are friendly and open to newcomers  as well as that Puppy is a fine platform for customizing./ppYou can see all of these for yourself by just clicking over to a class=freelinking external href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php?f=35http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php?f=35/a and you can also see many of the Puppy Derivatives here on a class=freelinking external href=http://puppylinux.org/downloads/pupletspuppylinux.org/a/p

Mail Music - Claws-Mail Gnomad2 for Puppy

pPuppy community members Tempestuous and Trapster have prepared two new programs, Claws-Mail and Gnomad2, that add capability to Puppy by providing ways to manage mail and music./ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/claws.jpg align=right / Tempestuous has packaged Claws-Mail; in his words, quot;Claws-Mail is a fork of the email client Sylpheed. It has a few more features than Sylpheed, but remains a relatively small application.quot; Puppy community member markofkane who has tried Claws-Mail says, quot;I like it better because it shows images and HTML.quot; The program also does IMAP4 and has aspell for spell-checking. The basic package is a one package pet, but there are add-on pets available for other languages than English and bogofilter for spam filtering. Information and a download link is available a class=freelinking external href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31106here/a./ppnbsp;/ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/gnomad.jpg align=left //ppnbsp;/ppnbsp;/ppnbsp;/ppTrapster has prepared the Gnomad2 package for managing music on Creative Nomad and Zen players, and a number of others. Speaking as one who has one of the original Nomads, this program fills a need. Creative has also, of course, sold many of their more modern players--but that original Nomad is as solid as a rock, a big old 5 GB drive the size of a large portable CD-player. OK, enough of that! You are advised to read the entire thread to make sure that you understand what you are getting into. As is very often the case with additional Pupget packages, the developer cannot test on the widest variety of hardware and relies on Puppy community members to help out. It looks like this was one of the many times that sort of cooperation worked and resulted in a new program that expands Puppy's capabilities. Gnomad2 is available a class=freelinking external href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=33164here/a/p

BioPuppy Chosen for Debian-Med Project

pThe custom Puppy derivative BioPuppy has been chosen by the Debian-Med Project as the operating system to contain the BioInformatics packages that are one aspect of Debian-Med's current focus. Debian-Med is a custom Debian distribution that is creating quot;a free software-based platform for all aspects of medical research and practice.quot;/ppBioPuppy OS was created by Puppy Linux community member Prakash as quot;an electronic workbench for bio-informatics and computational biology...containing all the required software to boot the computer with ready to use bio-informatics tools.quot; BioPuppy is based on Puppy-3.01-seamonkey Linux./ppThe quality of Prakash's contribution to this project should be pretty obvious, but he also says, quot; The whole credit goes to Puppy Linux. Special thanks to Mr.Barry Kauler who encouraged me in this project and ... all the community members.quot;/ppBioPuppy link is, a href=http://biopuppy.org/ target=_blank class=postlinkhttp://biopuppy.org/a/ppThe old thread about BioPuppy, a href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=29140 target=_blank class=postlinkhttp://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=29140/a/ppDebian-Med project, a href=http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMed target=_blank class=postlinkhttp://wiki.debian.org/DebianMed/a/ppa href=http://biopuppy.org/ target=_blank class=postlink/abr /img src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/iopuppy.jpg //p

Chihuahua Community Edition 3.02 is Back

p The latest Community Puppy has had a rough puppyhood, but it is now available as Chihuahua alpha 8 reborn 3.02./ppFrom the Release Announcement: quot;Chihuahua has returned to Firefox3.01 as the default browser, with a nice new theme built-in, called Phoenity Reborn. But the main new feature here is a really cool version of Icewin, provided by Ttuuxxx. It sports new icons, a tidied-up Blinky, LED digital clock as default plus an analogue version available. Right clicking the freememapplet gives you a listing of partition information, plus a running processes manager. I haven't yet seen the small but annoying freememapplet window on the desktop. Hope it's gone for good. Four themes are provided and very nice they are too. This is well worth a look.quot;/ppHere is the link for more information: a class=freelinking external href=http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32596Chihuahua 3.02 a8/a/ppimg src=http://www.diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy400/chihuahua.png //p
